Guntur: Former minister and BJP leader Kanna Lakshminarayana is likely to join YSRCP on April 25. He is said to be keen on contesting from Pedakurapadu Assembly constituency in the next elections.

He was elected from the same constituency four times as Congress candidate. Lakshminarayana has been holding meetings with this followers in Guntur city for the last two days to elicit their opinion on changing the party.

After the rout of Congress in 2014 elections, Lakshminarayana joined BJP along with his political mentor Kavuri Sambasiva Rao. At the time of his joining BJP, the party high command reported to have promised a good position in the party. But so far, that assurance has not been met, which upset him. Being a Kapu, he is in race for party state president post but hints are that he is least likely to be picked for it.

Sources say he will announce his change of party on April 25 when the BJP high command is expected to finalise its state chief. He was elected to Assembly five times, out of which four times from Pedakurapadu and once from Guntur West.

He worked as minister for labour, transport, housing, cooperative and agriculture. In the run up to state bifurcation, he lobbied for Chief Minister post and even met then Congress president Sonia Gandhi. As a BJP leader, he actively participated in the party programmes.
