Chittoor: The Karnataka cops have denied permission for the proposed padayatra from Chittoor to Bengaluru citing the election code and on security grounds, according to K Jayaraj, convenor of the SCS Sadhana Samithi. We are planning to launch a bus yatra on June 24 instead of padayatra, he added.

The SCS Sadhana Samithi had decided to launch a padayatra with the workers of TDP, Congress, Jana Sena and Left parties and representatives of employees’ unions and voluntary organisations to meet Telugu voters in Karnataka state and urge them to teach a lesson to the BJP in the ensuing polls for not fulfilling bifurcation promises including Special Category Status (SCS).

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, Jayaraj said that the Samithi has unanimously decided to meet the Telugu voters in 47 Assembly constituencies of Karnataka state and seek their support for the SCS.

“We have also made a representation to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requesting him to grant permission for padayatra,” he added, saying that padayatra would certainly influence Telugu people in Karnataka.

He made an appeal to the TD government to impress upon on the Karnataka government for obtaining nod either for padayatra or bus yatra. Jayaraj called all political parties to put up a united fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing SCS for AP.
