Anantapur: Accion Fraterna Ecology Centre director Y V Malla Reddy, a sister concern of Rural Development Trust (RDT), who helped 60,000 farmers to come out of drought conditions in 235 villages in Anantapur district, has been conferred with the National Award for excellence in voluntary sector by the All India Council for Mass Education and Development of Kolkata. Reddy has been zeroed in for the national award for his excellent work achieved in tackling drought in the district.

The award was conferred on him at a national seminar held in SV University in Tirupati on Saturday. He was the champion of the watershed movement and water conservation where every drop of water is a golden drop.

AP Skill Development Corporation Director G Lakshminarayana gave away the award to Reddy and to several eminent men in other fields representing several states. Reddy's name is synonymous with RDT for over 42 years.
