Work collectively to check human trafficking: CPC
Human trafficking is not restricted to one place or a city it is a global problem, said City Police Commissioner D Goutam Sawang. He was addressing the gathering at an interactive session organised jointly by Vasavya Mahila Mandali and Public Affairs Section of the US Consulate here on Monday.

He was addressing the gathering at an interactive session organised jointly by Vasavya Mahila Mandali and Public Affairs Section of the US Consulate here on Monday.
He said the ratio of human trafficking would be according to the place and situation. He appealed to respective departments of government, NGOs, public sector bodies and the police to work collectively to restrict the human trafficking.
Minal Patel Davis, special adviser to Houston Mayor on Human Trafficking, said that the Mayor of Houston has power to change the law according to the situation. She said it needs immense hard work to know the intensity of human trafficking at a place.
She said that there were five objectives to identify trafficking.She said that massage centres should not be allowed without permission. People residing at shelters for homeless aged between 18 to 22 were prone to trafficking.
Other measures, she suggested were to conduct awareness programmes, establish separate cell for checking human trafficking and create awareness through pamphlets and radio and other media.
