Vijayawada: Employees working in municipalities and municipal corporations of the state will have their own Provident Fund account number and PF amount will be deposited in the allotted number.

The Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development on Tuesday issued orders to the municipalities and the municipal corporations of the state to open the PF account and allot a number to each employee.

People's representatives, employees’ unions and teachers’ associations have been urging the government for a long time to open separate PF accounts and allot a separate number to each employee and deposit their PF contribution every month.

Principal Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh KarikalaValavan on Tuesday issued the G.O. number 673128/D1/2017 datedApril 24, 2018 for the opening of PF accounts by the municipalities and the municipal corporations.

Employees’ associations have earlier levelled allegations about the irregularities in the maintenance of PF accounts by the Urban local bodies (ULBs). Some Local bodies have diverted the PF amounts of the employees for other purposes.

Consequently, employees had to face problems to get their PF after the retirement. Keeping in view of the alleged irregularities in the maintenance of records, the employees’ associations and teachers’ unions had been demanding opening of separate PF accounts.

Finally, the State government had conceded to their demand and issued orders on Tuesday. Municipal Teachers Federation (MTF) state president S Ramakrishna said the employees PF contribution will be deposited in their accounts henceforth.

With the directives given on Tuesday, the municipalities and municipal corporations will maintain PF accounts of each employee, who can get information about their PF amount easily. It is estimated that 16,000 teachers and 15,500 other employees working in municipalities and corporations will be benefitted in the State.

Andhra Pradesh Municipal Ministerial Staff Association state president S KrishnamohanaRao and General Secretary D Eswar thanked the government for issuing the orders.
