Rajamahendravaram: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr M Malakondaiah said that proposals were sent to the government relating to creation of new police sub-divisions in the State.

Speaking to reporters at the office of the urban Superintendent of Police here on Wednesday evening, he said there was a need for more police sub-divisions to provide more effective and efficient services to the people.

All the police officers have been asked to file charge-sheets immediately relating to atrocities against women. The police were taking action without delay in this regard, he said.

He said steps were being taken to address traffic problems in the State. Some policemen are being imparted training and they will be sent to the traffic wing. He said the issues relating to promotions of Deputy Superintendents of Police need to be resolved and measures were being taken in this regard.

The police department is making efforts to combat ganja smuggling and the officials were instructed to deal with iron hand against ganja smugglers. At present 151 metric tonnes of ganja was with the department and it will be destroyed soon, he said.

The government will take action on clemency petitions of prisoners in the State, the DGP said in reply to a question. The police need not poke their nose in civil cases and directions were issued in this regard.

There is information about the movement of Pardhi gang in Chittoor district and the police officers were asked to be on the alert, he said. Security is being tightened for prominent persons, he pointed out. Urban Superintendent of Police B Raja Kumari was present.
