Nellore: Sarvepalli MLA and YSRCP district convener Kakani Govardhan Reddy alleged that Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has been trying to loot 2,200 acres of reserve forest land in Chillakur and Kota mandals.

Addressing the media at YSRC district office, Sarvepalli MLA said Minister Somireddy was trying to grab 1,600 acres in Momidi and 600 acres in Kothapatnam in the district.

‘There are abundant minerals in these reserve forest lands in Chillakur and Kota mandals. The Minister had eyed on these rich silica lands in the reserve forest areas occupying in the name of benamis,’ said the Sarvepalli MLA. He said the Minister had plans to swallow these lands with the help of a loophole in a GO, he stated.

The MLA termed the Agriculture Minister as ‘Scamsreddy’ and said that the unused reserve forest lands can be utilised for public purposes. The Minister and his benamis have purchased lands in Anantapur and Prakasam districts with Rs75,000–Rs 80,000 per acre and handed over to the Forest department to develop greenery temporarily, said Govardhan Reddy.

As per the officials, around 25,000 tonnes of silica will be available per one acre that costs around Rs 1 crore revenue from the rich reserve forest lands, said the legislator. Local YSR Congress leaders were also present.
