Director general of police calls for coordinated efforts to prevent red sanders smuggling

Rajamahendravaram: Director general of police Dr M Malakondaiah advised the officials of police and forest departments to work in tandem to combat forest related crimes in the state. Co-ordinated efforts give good results in the work, he added.

Addressing the section and beat officers at AP State Forest Academy here on Wednesday night, the DGP said red sanders smuggling became a problem and officials of the two departments should work together to combat it. The smuggling was in various stages relating to red sanders from cutting of the tree and up to marketing.

Every officer should take this problem as a challenge and try to solve it, he said. Some persons residing in Dubai and Malaysia are also part and parcel of red sanders smuggling, he said and the government was very particular to put an end to this menace.

Meanwhile, beat officers should play a pivotal role in protecting forest wealth as well as wind animals, he said. Malakondaiah said the trees in forest help to maintain environmental balance but the department cannot derive any profits from the trees. Every employee working in the department should feel proud for doing job in the department, he added.

Chief Conservator of Forests J S N Murthy said every employee treat DGP as a role model in discharging duties and he is an inspiration to all. The department is putting in all efforts to develop forest area, he said.

Forest Academy deputy director M V Prasad Rao, urban superintendent of police B RajaKumari, DFO (wildlife) Anantha Shankar and others were present. Later, the DGP planted a sapling in Godavari Maha Pushkara Vanam.
