Hyderabad: In a development that is raising the anxiety levels in Telugu Desam camp, Governor ESL Narasimhan is learnt to have called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday night and submitted a report to him on the political developments in Andhra Pradesh to him.

The Governor, after spending the night in Delhi, returned to Hyderabad on Wednesday, cutting short his trip. He was supposed to be in Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday and confer with the Prime Minister and other important honchos of the BJP and the government.

In fact, in preparation to his Delhi visit, ESL Narasimhan had a one-on-one meeting with AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Vijayawada and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Hyderabad.

He called on Chandrababu Naidu last Sunday and is understood to have asked him to moderate his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and not incite Andhra voters against the BJP candidates in the Assembly elections in Karnataka. Similarly, the Governor called on KCR on April 19 and discussed the latter’s move to form a federal front and how it was going to play a role in national politics.

Interestingly, even after mediation by ESL Narasimhan, Chandrababu Naidu did not mellow down but continued his attack on the Centre and on the institution of governor itself. At a public meeting in East Godavari district, Naidu deplored the Governor dabbling in politics and trying to rally political parties against him. He feared attack on him and asked the people to be around him and protect him like a human shield.

He also attacked the institution of governor itself and recalled how TDP founder president NT Rama Rao had launched a scathing attack on the gubernatorial position and even sought its abolition.

Narasimhan, after arriving in Delhi on Tuesday evening, is understood to have met the Union Home Minister and apprised him of his meetings with both the chief ministers who had turned against the BJP lately.

According to sources, Naidu’s continuous belligerence against the BJP did not go down well with the Home Minister. It is not yet clear why Narasimhan chose to cut short his visit and return to Hyderabad instead of meeting other leaders in Delhi. Unconfirmed sources said that he was asked to return to Hyderabad as the appointments with other leaders whom he was to meet were cancelled.

There is speculation that the Centre was unhappy with both the chief ministers taking anti-BJP stand and Naidu even going to the extent of attacking the Prime Minister and the institution of the governor itself.
