Kurnool: The cops and the food inspectors in a joint operation have seized a vehicle loaded with banned gutka sachets worth Rs 15 lakh at Safa Engineering College on Thursday. Two persons have been taken into custody. The accused have been brought before the media in the presence of District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetty at Ved Vyas Auditorium on Thursday.

Addressing the media, the SP said that cops while conducting vehicle checks at Safa Engineering College, a four-wheeler loaded with gutka sachets was detected. Around 125 bags containing 7.5 lakh sachets were being transported to Guntur from Bellary. The vehicle driver, Abdul Kareem and another person Pusuri Venkata Sai were taken into custody.

The SP said selling of gutka is banned and it is an offense according to law. “We have detained the vehicle and a case has been filed against the accused. The duo would be produced in the court for further action,” he stated. Circle Inspector Shaik Ismail, food inspectors Deva Raju, M Ravi Kumar and others were present during the raid.
