Visakhapatnam: The city police arrested two bookies and five assistants of two cricket betting gangs and recovered three laptops, five multi-level cell connectivity boxes, three television sets, 107 mobile phones with 34 unused SIM cards and Rs 10,60,000 from their possession.

The police also seized one four-wheeler and four two wheelers from the gangs. All the gang members hail from Vizianagaram, East Godavari and Hyderabad, have developed a network for betting in 11th edition matches of IPL.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Joint Commissioner of Police D Nagendra Kumar said that M Laxmi Chandra Shekar from Hyderabad and A Bheema Raju from Anaparthi mandal in East Godavari district were identified as bookies and G Swami Naidu, G Ramu Naidu, B Satyam, L Tirupathi and K Vara Prasad were identified as the assistants.

The gang selected the Visakhapatnam as best place to conduct betting. The bookies took individual flats on rent at Akshaya Villa and at Hema Heritage in Kirlampudi, before the IPL started.
