Vijayawada: In what appears to be an open invitation to Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale asked the TDP to rejoin NDA government. He stated that the Centre was ready to extend all help to the State in all spheres.

Yet in what construed to be a veiled threat, the Union Minister said that they may ask YS Jaganmohan Reddy, chief of YSR Congress to join NDA if Chandrababu did not respond to the call.

When asked on what basis Chandrababu Naidu would rejoin NDA, even after the BJP-led NDA government failed to extend any help to the State four years after bifurcation of AP, the Union Minister said that Chandrababu Naidu, who is an efficient chief minister and technology-savvy person has a vision for the future, would stand to benefit if the TDP restores alliance with NDA.

When pointed out about the corruption charges against the YSR Congress president, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the Union Minister said that the corruption charges were yet to be proved. “Moreover, Jagan is popular as the son of the late chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy,” he said.

Earlier, after reeling out the statistics of welfare measures implemented by the Centre for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities and OBC, the Minister assured the SC and ST communities not to worry over the Supreme Court judgment as the Centre would take corrective measures.

Referring to another Supreme Court judgment which denied reservations in promotions, Athawale said that the Centre would also take corrective measures to provide promotions for the SC and ST employees. Stating that the AP government is extending financial help of Rs 75,000 for inter-caste married couples, he pointed out that the Maharashtra government is giving Rs 2 lakh. He appealed to Chandrababu Naidu to enhance the amount to Rs 2 lakh.

About the growing atrocities against Dalits, Athawale said that it was not the question of who is in power whether it is BJP, Congress but it is the caste system which responsible for the attacks. He lambasted the Congress for misleading people that BJP was responsible for growing attacks on Dalits.
