Joint Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata and One town circle inspector D Kasi Viswanath on Thursday received 10th Intellectual Property Rights awards in New Delhi from the Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu for successfully busting the fake drugs gang in Vijayawada city and other parts of India.

Vijayawada: Joint Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata and One town circle inspector D Kasi Viswanath on Thursday received 10th Intellectual Property Rights awards in New Delhi from the Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu for successfully busting the fake drugs gang in Vijayawada city and other parts of India.

The one town police under the supervision of Commissioner of Police D Gowtam Sawang and Joint Commissioner of Police Kanti Tata have successfully nabbed the gangs involved in manufacturing and supply of fake drugs belonging to the reputed companies like Johnson and Johnsons last year.

Officials of the Department of Drug Control and One town police went to seven cities and nabbed the culprits and seized spurious drugs worth Rs 5 crore. Recognising the services of city police, the Union government had chosen city police for the Intellectual Property Rrights award. Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu presented the award to Kanti Rana and K Kasi Viswnath.

The city police swung into action following the complaint lodged by the representatives of some companies as the sales were dropped over the months. The officials suspected some foul game and kept vigil on the sales. Finally, the gang was busted and machinery used for manufacturing of fake drugs were brought back to Vijayawada from Roorky last year.
