Srikakulam: Students pursuing various courses in schools and colleges and beneficiaries of government schemes are facing hardships to get caste certificates being issued by the revenue officials.

In the name of new rules before issuing these certificates, the revenue officials concerned are taking more time in the mandals. As a result, most applications are being rejected after lapse of one-month. The applicants have to apply again by paying Rs 50 through online process at Mee Seva centres which is consuming valuable time of applicants.

About 7,500 applications have been rejected in a span of four months across the district regarding caste certificates. Officials delaying even in issue of renewal caste certificates and they are conducting enquiry on par with fresh applications.

To get fee reimbursement, scholarships, exemption of fee and subsidy under government schemes and to avail bank loans, caste certificates are essential. To get benefits under the Central government schemes and to appear for the Central government examinations, OBC certificate is required. In Srikakulam, 80 per cent of population belong to BCs as a result, applications for BC and OBC certificates are being flooded every day in the wake of beginning of academic year, examinations and for implementation of government schemes. “I have applied for caste certificate twice in a span of two months.

When asked, revenue officials say that inquiry is going on,” said Ch Sanyasi Naidu, resident of Balaga area in Srikakulam city to The Hans India, who applied for bank loan under BC Corporation schemes. “To prevent fake certificates, inquiry is needed but we will accelerate the process,” said additional joint collector P Rajanikantha Rao told to The Hans India.
