Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana directed the officials of the Department of Horticulture to prepare a contingency plan for increasing the acreage of horticulture crops in the district. He participated in a review meeting on the progress in the development of horticulture crops with officials of Horticulture and its allied departments like DRDA and APMIP at conference hall here on Friday.

Addressing the review meeting, the District Collector said the government has set a target of 1.59 lakh acres to the district to expand the acreage of horticulture crops in a span of three years. “But, we were able to enhance it to only 20,000 acres last year,” he stated. He advised the officials of cluster area to prepare a contingency plan on increasing the acreage of horticulture crops in an extent of 60,000 acres this year.

Expressing displeasure over the negligence of the officials, the Collector asked officials to shun negligence and carry out plantations by the end of this month. He said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was very keen in enhancing the acreage of horticulture crops in the district for which he was holding a review meeting once in every 15 days.

Compared to other districts, the District Collector said that Kurnool district was listed at the bottom. He ordered the DPMs and APMs of the mandals concerned to concentrate and achieve the given target. He also inspected the status of plantations done in all mandals and asked the reasons for not achieving the targets.

He ordered the officials to submit to him a contingency plan by May 5 about the pits and plantation of Horticulture seedlings. DRDA Project Director Rama Krishna, APMIP Project Director Srinivas Rao, Joint Director Agriculture Uma Maheshwaramma, DWMA Project Director Venkatasubbaiah and other officials were present.
