Kakinada: The megalithic burials in twin Godavari districts belonged to fifth century BC, announced the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Southern Circle superintendent archaeologist PS Sri Raman.

Along with other archaeologists, Raman visited the Rayana Peta and Rudram Kota megalithic burial sites in the East and West Godavari districts.Speaking on this occasion, Raman explained about excavations in progress. They closely examined the beads and other utensils that were unearthed from the burials. There were many such burial sites in the Godavari river basin, he revealed.

AP State Archaeology Department deputy director N Mallikarjuna Rao, KSB Kesava, Deputy Director G Venkata Ratnam, assistant directors Pattabhi Reddy, R Phalguna Rao and technical assistants Leela Subrahmanyam, Thimma Raju and John Kamalakar participated in the excavations.
