Vijayawada: Visalandhra Mahasabha president Nalamotu Chakravarti demanded that the Union government immediately accord Special Category Status to the state and implement the assurances made in the State Re-organisation Act.

Speaking to the media at the Press Club here on Saturday, Chakravarti said that the Union government had betrayed the people of Andhra Pradesh on SCS. He demanded that the Central government immediately create separate railway zone, Vizag as headquarters, construct steel plant in Kadapa and release adequate funds for the construction of the Polavaram project.

He said Visalandhra Maha Sabha state meeting was convened at Gollapudi on Saturday and discussed many subjects related to the state. He appealed to the people of Andhra Pradesh to continue protests till the Union government fulfils its promises. Representatives of Visalandhra Mahasabha VV Krishna Rao, M Appala Naidu, Sadasiva Reddy, Jagadeesh and others attended the meeting, Chakravarti added.
