Amaravati: Officials on Monday informed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that Polavaram Irrigation Project reached an overall progress of 53.02 per cent.

This includes the head works, the right main canal and the left main canal. The Chief Minister from his residence at Undavalli virtually inspected the project progress using a live drone feed. The Chief Minister thus conducted the 58th review of the project.

The officials said 72.3% of the excavation for the spillway and spill channel was completed, i.e., 806.29 lakh cubic metres out of 1,115.59 lakh cubic metres. During the last week, 5.4 lakh cubic metres of earthwork was excavated for the spill channel, pilot channel, spillway, left bank and approach channel.

They also said 35.1% of the concreting for the spillway and the stilling basin was completed, accounting for 5.76 lakh cubic metres out of 16.39 lakh cubic metres. In all, 32,098 cubic metres of concrete was laid last week.

The cumulative spillway concrete works completed this month was 1,15,658 cubic metres. The Chief Minister pointed out that for the first time more than 1 lakh cubic metres of concrete works were completed in a month. In March, the cumulative concrete works completed was 91,761 cubic metres.

Other main components of the dam that have shown consistent progress were the fabrication of radial gates (60%), jet grouting for the downstream cofferdam (78%) and upstream cofferdam (56.3%). The officials said 19 metres of the diaphragm wall was completed during the last week, which leaves 212.4 metres of work pending. The diaphragm wall is expected to be ready by the end of May.

Adavipalle Lift Irrigation Scheme: The Adavipalle Lift Irrigation Scheme and reservoir are both expected to be completed by May 31. This year, Venugopala Sagara, Mallimadugu and Balaji reservoirs will be ready by December 2018. The Althurupadu Balancing Reservoir and Lift Scheme will also be ready by December 2018.

Chandrababu Naidu said that he wanted to visit every district and check the progress of the Neeru-Pragathi Project. He plans to personally visit the sites of different irrigation projects, and assure the citizens of the State of a drought-free and well-irrigated season ahead.

Inspired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s commitment in constructing Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, Bekem Infra Projects Private Limited donated Rs 1 crore for capital construction.

The contractor working on the radial gates of the Polavaram Irrigation Project, Bekem Infra Projects Private Limited, celebrated the company’s silver jubilee by donating Rs 1 crore to the CM Relief Fund for the development of the new capital city. While presenting the cheque to Chandrababu Naidu, the representatives from the company said that Polavaram was their 100th project.
