Visakhapatnam: Girls have outperformed boys by whisker in the SSC examinations, the results of which were released by HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao here on Sunday evening at the AU Convention Hall. While girls scored 94.56 per cent, boys scored 94.41 per cent. The overall pass percentage is 94.48 in 2018 which is higher (an increase of 2.56 per cent) in comparison with the last year's 91.92 per cent. Prakasam district topped the list with 97.98 percentage, while Nellore district is at the bottom with 80.39%.

A total 5,340 schools, including 3,125 private ones, achieved 100 per cent results while 17 secured zero pass percentage in the state. A total of 6,13,378 candidates (3,15,508 boys and 2,97,870 girls), including 6,04,527 regular candidates and 8,851 private candidates, appeared for the SSC examination held in March-2018.

While private schools in the state had a higher pass percentage of 98.11, aided schools again fared badly with the lowest pass percentage of 87.97. BC Welfare Schools secured 97.99 pass percentage, while model schools secured 97.38 percentage and APRS and government schools secured pass percentage of 97.10 and 90.77, respectively.

Among the 13 districts, Prakasam secured the highest pass percentage of 97.98, whereas East Godavari finished second with 97.90, followed by Visakhapatnam with 96.66, Srikakulam 96.6, Chittoor 96.4, Vizianagaram 96.33, Kurnool 96.16, Anantapur 96.07, Krishna 96.02, YSR Kadapa 95.57, Guntur 95.24, West Godavari 83.93 and Nellore with 80.39. The HRD Minister said the supplementary examinations of SSC will be held from June 11 to 25 and the last date for payment of fee is May 30.
