The Central government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 98.98 crore under Amrut scheme to the city for various development works.
Rajamahendravaram: The Central government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 98.98 crore under Amrut scheme to the city for various development works.
The city was selected for Amrut scheme in the year 2015. Later an amount of Rs 5.05 crore was released in the first phase and after that for one year the Central government failed to sanction any amount under the scheme.
Later, Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) has sent proposals worth Rs 100 crore to the Central government and now the government sanctioned the funds.
According to RMC sources, of the total funds, an amount of Rs 82 crore will be spent to develop parks, drains, roads and for drinking water schemes along with providing tap to each house in the city and the remaining funds will be used for other works.
A sum of Rs 16.98 crore will be spent for the construction of new STP in addition to the existing STP. The corporation will let out the drain water into the river after giving treatment to it in STP.
Meanwhile, the RMC has been spending Rs 1.73 crore out of Rs 5.05 crore in the first phase. It has started works for STP coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 17.98 crore.
Under Amrut scheme, the Central government will give 50 per cent of funds, followed by 20 per cent by the State government and the remaining 30 per cent by RMC.
The existing STP is having capacity to treat only 30 MLD of drain water as against the requirement of 70 MLD of drain water. With this, the corporation is releasing the remaining drain water into the river without treatment. After completion of second STP, all 70 MLD drain water would be released into the river after treatment.
