Gali Saraswathamma, wife of former MLC and senior TDP leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, is all set to become MLC in the bye election to be held on May 21 in the vacancy caused by the death of Muddukrishnama Naidu.
Tirupati: Gali Saraswathamma, wife of former MLC and senior TDP leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, is all set to become MLC in the bye election to be held on May 21 in the vacancy caused by the death of Muddukrishnama Naidu.
TDP supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu tilted in favour of Gali Saraswathamma as her two sons could not arrive at a consensus on who should be the candidate. She will file her nomination papers on May 3, which is the last date.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the main opposition party YSRCP has decided not to field its candidate in this bye election. However, an official announcement in this regard is expected by Wednesday.
As a mark of respect to the departed leader, TDP high command decided to give the ticket to one of the family members of Muddukrishnama Naidu. But, his two sons Bhanuprakash and Jagadeesh could not come to an understanding so as to who should get a chance.
Both have insisted for the ticket for themselves, which forced the Chief Minster to ask the Minister for Industries N Amarnath Reddy and others to discuss with the family members. But it did not yield any result.
At this juncture, it was learnt that Saraswathamma had asked the Chief Minister to give ticket to her younger son Jagadeesh or to her. Sensing that the family feud will further flare up if ticket is given to the younger son, Naidu decided to give party ticket to Saraswathamma which can pacify her two sons also.
With this, Naidu also sent signals that the party did not ignore Muddu’s family who was the close associate of the founder of TDP NT Rama Rao. In fact, Muddukrishnama Naidu did not give any indications about his political heir at any moment. YSRCP on the otherhand has almost decided their candidate will not enter the fray.
TDP has a clear majority in the local bodies in the district. Apart from this as TDP has been fielding Muddukrishnama’s wife the party seems to be discussing on their strategy. It may be noted that, they did not field their candidate during last elections against Muddukrishnama Naidu.
So, some party leaders were arguing that it would not be proper to enter the fray this time after his death which will pave the way for Saraswathamma to win unanimously.
