Vijayawada: Film actor and director R Narayana Murthy said the political parties should put their flags aside and launch united fight for Special Category Status (SCS).
Addressing a round-table meeting held here on Wednesday, he said the political parties should stop criticising each other for political mileage. The SCS would become a reality if the political parties fight with a single agenda.
He also demanded that the government should implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission for the benefit of farmers. The farmers were facing hardships, he said and added that the government should provide remunerative price to their produce.
Narayana Murthy thanked the farmers and farmers' organisations for extending support to his forthcoming movie Annadatha Sukheebhava. He said the movie could get nod from the Censor Board following the support of Rytu Sangham organisations.
He said the farmers would get justice if they also waged a united fight. "If the farmers stopped the farming activities, the whole society would face problems," he pointed out. The governments should realise the importance of farming community and must give importance to them and their produce.
Former minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao said that all the farmers’ organisations across the country would stage a protest demonstration on May 10 seeking solutions to their problems. He recalled that the Indian Independence movement was launched on the same day.
