Vijayawada: TDP senior leader and newly-appointed RTC chairman Varla Ramaiah said that he would strive for the development of APSRTC stating that the corporation was like a family and he would play a lead role for the development of organisation.

Ramaiah took the oath as the chairman of the APSRTC on Wednesday at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station in the presence of the ministers, RTC vice-chairman and managing director N Surendra Babu, TDP leaders, family members and hundreds of his followers. Speaking on the occasion, Ramaiah said the RTC had gradually developed as one of the biggest public transport organisations in the country with a fleet of 12,000 buses since its formation in 1920.

Stating that his office would always remain open for the employees, he thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for nominating him to the post of chairman. Finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said the RTC was gradually cutting down losses and suggested that the organisation reach the stage of no-profit and no-loss. He praised the efforts of the officials and staff for the improvement in the organisation in the last four years.

Transport and BC welfare minister K Atchannaidu said during the four-year TDP rule, the RTC is successfully was able to reduce losses. He thanked the finance minister for giving support to the organisation to purchase 200 new buses. He underlined the need to run the organisation with great co-ordination to go into profits.

Water resources minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said Varla Ramaiah was a dedicated leader and worker. He hoped he would work in coordination with the employees for the development of the corporation.

Civil supplies minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, social welfare and tribal welfare minister Nakka Ananda Babu, RTC managing director and Vice-chairman N Surendra Babu and others spoke on the occasion.

MLCs Batchula Arjunudu, Karanam Balaram, Buddha Venkanna, B Ravindra, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, mayor Koneru Sridhar and others attended the event.
