Trade unions organised various programmes here on Tuesday to mark the May Day. Sudden downpour followed by thunderstorms disrupted the May Day celebrations across the city. However, AITUC and CITU celebrated the day by taking out rallies, meetings and round table on the workers’ policies. Â

The leaders of various unions alerted the working class to fight against the Centre demanding that it stop the move to privitise PSUs. Addressing the workers at a meeting, State President of CPI Ramakrishna called upon for the unity of the working class to fight against the corporate policies.
He criticised the BJP policies and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi with vested interests implementing anti-worker policies drafted by some people in the corporate sector.
Though the workers had achieved labour laws and act by sacrificing their lives, the BJP government was diluting the rights of the workers and safeguarding the corporate sector, he alleged and called to fight against the government policies The CITU took out a massive rally from its office located at Jagadamba Junction to Jail Road via Saraswati Park in which hundreds of workers participated. General secretary of CITU M Jaggunaidu addressed the workers.
At another programme, the recognised trade union in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (CITU) took out a rally at the steel township. The IFTU also took out a rally from Diamond Park to Ambedkar Park in the city. Addressing the workers, the leaders alerted them to be careful about the BJP government’s move to privitise the PSUs.
