Director General of Police Dr M Malakondaiah announced that the police will use more technology to control and prevent crimes in future. The DGP inaugurated the newly constructed technical data analytics centre, integrated command control, galaxy complex and police conference hall at the district police office in Ongole on Wednesday.

The DGP inaugurated the newly constructed technical data analytics centre, integrated command control, galaxy complex and police conference hall at the district police office in Ongole on Wednesday.

The technical data analytics centre or IT lab will be used to analyse data related to cybercrime, CCTV footage of crime scenes etc while the integrated command control connects all CCTV cameras installed by the department in the district to state command control as part of real time governance.

The department announced that there are 269 CCTV cameras installed now and another 726 cameras will be installed soon with AP Fibernet grid. DGP Malakondaiah also released the Suraksha Sankalan, a photo album and report on various crimes and investigation in the district published in Suraksha police magazine from January 2017 to March 2018.

Speaking to the media, the DGP said that cybercrimes were increasing in the State. He said that frauds to the tune of Rs 2 crore were reported in the State last year and Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada were the dominating areas in these incidents.

He asked the public to never share their confidential information including the OTPs from banks to any person even to the bank representatives for any purpose. He said that the police department staff members were also being trained on various technical aspects to analyse, detect and prevent crimes.

He said that with the CCTNS by the Government of India, they can easily access crime data and improve cooperation across all States, to know undetected, missing cases and identify offenders from other States taking shelter in the State etc.

He also mentioned that technical analysis of crimes helps in identifying the hot spots of crimes, their trends, accident zones etc which helps the police to prevent them.

The DGP announced that a Cybercrime Lab will be established in each district soon and police personnel right from the rank of SI will be trained to handle the cases.

He said that the National Police Academy also rolled out training modules on cybercrimes for the police personnel. The DGP distributed scholarships worth Rs 11,10,000 to 195 students, the children of police personnel for their merit in Class X, Inter and engineering studies.
