Visakhapatnam: The CBI sleuths of Visakhapatnam arrested M Prasad, who is working as Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer with South Central Railway, Guntur, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant. The CBI officials stated that the complainant is a railway contractor, undertaking cleaning of East and West Booking Offices and areas of Guntur Railway Station from May 1, 2016.

His contract ended on April 30, 2018, and an offer for extending the contract for a further period of 90 days from May 1, 2018 to July 29, 2018, was sent to him by the Office of Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer of SCR, M Prasad. When the contractor gave his consent, Prasad demanded Rs 25,000 for signing the contract agreement, extending the current contract for 90 more days.

He also threatened that unless the bribe amount is paid, as demanded, he would not sign the contract agreement and see that the contract is cancelled. After some discussions, Prasad reduced the bribe amount to Rs 20,000. The contractor lodged a complaint with CBI. The CBI officials laid a trap and caught Prasad red-handed while he was accepting the kickbacks.
