In all, there are 462 BEd colleges offering 39,010 seats in the state but only 7,430 students qualified for this academic year. Reacting to it, Human Resources Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao stated that the government has decided not to permit new BEd colleges.

More than 30,000 BEd seats are going to remain vacant in hundreds of colleges in the state in the current academic year. In 2017, the situation was same with respect to the BEd colleges and only 7,010 candidates qualified in that year.

Ganta Srinivasa Rao explained that the state government will write a letter to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) not to allow any new BEd colleges in the state from this academic year onwards.

Further, Rao explained that the government received complaints against the existing BEd colleges that they were not following the standards and not providing quality education to the students. In addition to that majority of the colleges are allowing students without minimum attendance.

Showing serious concern over it, the Minister warned that they would take appropriate action on such colleges and also added that government will introduce biometric attendance system for students and faculty at all colleges.
