Visakhapatnam: The hospital development committee of the Government Hospital for Mental Care has decided to take up all the needs and urgent works on a priority basis. There are several works in the hospital, which have been pending for the past several years.

During the Hudhud cyclone, the buildings and boundary wall of the hospital were damaged and are yet to be repaired. A meeting of the development committee of the hospital chaired by In-Charge Collector G Srijana, was held on Friday.

During the meeting, the members of the committee discussed the issues to be addressed on priority. Addressing the meeting, superintendent of the hospital Dr Radha Rani informed the members that a community kitchen, rehabilitation centre and restrooms for the attendants of the patients should be constructed.

The family ward in the hospital is in an isolated state on the premises and an exclusive power transformer is needed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the block and CCTV cameras should be installed on the premises, the hospital superintendent said.

Dr Radha Rani also informed that due to lack of concrete compound wall, encroachers are trying to grab the hospital land. The sanctioned strength of the hospital is 174, however, at present 140 are working on rolls and three employees are working on an outsourcing basis. Still, there are 31 vacancies in all the categories in the hospital, she said.

While responding on the issues, Chairman and In-Charge Collector G Srijana directed the hospital administration to tie up with various PSUs and other establishments to get Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to attend to the urgent works like installing CCTV cameras and construction of the compound wall.

The In-Charge Collector directed the superintendent of the hospital to prepare the proposals for the works. She assured the members to get the sanctions from the government to complete the works on priority.
