Visakhapatnam: As part of 56th anniversary celebrations of INHS Kalyani, a free medical camp was organised at the government school in Yarada village on Saturday. The camp was aimed at identifying early stages of chronic diseases by providing comprehensive health check-up and also distributed medicines to the needy.

The medical camp covered the fields of general medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, dental, ophthalmology and on-the-spot laboratory investigations coordinated by Surgeon Commodore A Karmarkar, Commanding Officer, INHS Kalyani, with a team of 13 medical officers and other supporting paramedical staff. The camp had an overwhelming response and local residents benefited with the medical services like ECG and CSR lab facilities provided in the camp.

Reviewing the medical camp, Vice-Admiral MS Pawar, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, interacted with the residents of the villages and emphasised the advantages of prevention rather than cure of the chronic diseases. He said that Yarada village and the ENC being neighbours had a symbiotic relationship and requested the locals to be alert watch keepers of coastal security. He urged the fisherfolk to report any suspicious activity at sea or along the coast.

The personnel from INHS Kalyani cleaned the school premises and surrounding areas as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Staff from Station Health Organisation carried out disinfection by spraying insecticides in the surrounding to prevent vector borne diseases.
