Vijayawada: Director of private institution and his friend were booked by Penamaluru police on Saturday for mercilessly attacking and injuring five students in the hostel room on Friday night.

According to Penamalur police, the accused K Phani Kumar, who was running NEET long-term coaching centre 'Viswa Academy' at Penamaluru, beaten up five students on Friday. The students were attending classes to appear for the NEET exam to be held on Sunday.

Five students- Ram of Kadapa, Jaswanth and Tarunesh of Kurnool and two other students from Prakasam district- joined the academy a few months ago to attend coaching classes. The students in the age group of 18 and 19 were allegedly bashed up by the director with PVC pipes as one of them informed the director about the misdeeds of hostel warden who was allegedly robbed cash from the students.

One student named Revanth had lost his money recently in the hostel room and same was informed to the director later. Enraged with the complaint, the accused had beaten the five students on Friday. On Saturday, the students lodged a complaint against the director.

Police after the investigation took the director and his friend into custody for questioning over the alleged assault. A case was registered under the sections 324,706 and 341 of IPC, said the police.
