Nellore: More than 50 per cent of students from Government Residential Junior Colleges in the district qualified in the JEE main examination which is a record in the recent history. 45 students from the 13 Residential Junior Colleges have qualified out of the total 75 candidates qualified across the state. Now, they are preparing for the IIT Advance exam at the Municipal Residential Junior College.

It may be recalled that there are around 1,000 children in all these 13 AP Residential, APSWR, and APTW Residential Junior Colleges. Municipal Administration Department had started a residential junior college in the city at VR College premises on the pilot project basis which is first of its kind.

The institution has become as a model one and the state government also declared that similar junior colleges would be established if the current batch showcases good performance in Iintermediate public examinations. Faculty members were also asked to focus on quality education and teachers from Narayana Institutions were involved to monitor academic activity in the college.

Minister encouraged coaching for the competitive exams like EAMCET, JEE/IIT etc and a batch was started in August 2017 and Narayana institutions provided faculty, study material and expertise. In addition, 60 members were outsourced to take up classes.

They provided one day per week on Sunday at Municipal Residential Junior College and they in turn provide special coaching to the students of residential junior colleges for the competitive exams from Monday to Saturday.

Over all 1,000 students from both MPC and BiPC streams were trained up for the examination. Coaching sessions are going on for 39 students from Social Welfare Residential Junior colleges, 7 from Tribal Welfare Residential Junior Colleges, 8 from Sphoorthy programme which was started by the then collector M Janaki and 1 member from Navodaya institution was included in the coaching for the IIT advance exam.

“We have conducted three exams in the month of November and shortlisted candidates on the basis of merit. Subsequently, 110 students have been provided intensive coaching and 45 candidates were successful,” said K Nageswara Rao, Principal of the MRJC. He added that the Minister had spent Rs. 1.50 crore for the entire programme.
