Amaravati works on fast-track, claims govt
The state government has claimed that capital construction is on fast track and some of the prestigious educational institutions are preparing to commence admissions for 2018-19 academic year.
Amaravati: The state government has claimed that capital construction is on fast track and some of the prestigious educational institutions are preparing to commence admissions for 2018-19 academic year.
The Vellore Institute of Technology-AP University, a multi-disciplinary university with 1,000-bed hospital, has completed the construction of 3.11 lakh sq ft as against the total built-up area of 1.99 crore sq-ft comprising of launch campus and boys hostel block.
“Construction of iconic central plaza for an area of 7.8 lakh sq.ft and faculty quarters will commence in May and admissions for academic year 2018-19 will be commenced in the same month for 1,500 student intake,” the government said.
Similarly, SRM Amaravati University, a multi-disciplinary university with 750 bed hospital, has readied 3 lakh Sq.ft of built up area and another 3.5 lakh sq ft of built up area will be readied for occupation by end of May.
The university started classes for the 2017-18 academic year for 240 students in the engineering stream and admissions for 2018-19 academic year will commence in May for 1000 student intake.
Foundation stone was laid on February 7 for Amrita University and foundation piling works are in full swing and access road, power and water supply provided by the state government. Slab works were completed for National Institute of Design.
During a teleconference, APCRDA commissioner explained to the Chief Minister the progress of several other prestigious projects along with government housing and other trunk infrastructure projects.
The government has formulated a five-pronged strategy to make the capital construction most cost effective, qualitative, transparent and accountable. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, “Public participation, cost effectiveness, speed, continues study of best practices and, more importantly, maintaining the excellent quality are the five mantras we need to follow for capital construction”.
He directed CRDA commissioner Ch Sreedhar to prepare a presentation on ‘Amaravati as of today and tomorrow’ for Collectors’ conference on May 8 to explain the progress of capital construction.
The Chief Minister has given directions to the principal secretary to energy Ajay Jain over speeding up the infrastructure projects. “Amaravati is public property. People’s participation is must in capital construction,” he said.
Stressing the need for cost effectiveness, the Chief Minister said, the entire construction process must be transparent and judicious”. He suggested to APCRDA to raise funds necessary for construction of structures in Amaravati at low interest rates.
The Chief Minister exhorted that maintaining excellent quality with global standards along with speed in construction works can be given the highest priority. The CRDA should create an exclusive-specialised cell to monitor quality control.
