- Top official non-committal on the future of RTC workshop
Speaking to the media here on the sidelines of his visit on Saturday, the RTC MD said that he would sort out the issue of increased rents for TTD lands in which bus depots, garages and workshops were established in Tirupati and Tirumala as they have become heavy burden for the RTC. “I have spoken to TTD EO AK Singhal for which he has reacted positively,” he said and exuded confidence of resolving the issue at the earliest.
The IPS official said that Tirumala ghat road services were not the only reason for RTC losses but there were several other institutional reasons. Ghat road services might be contributing to the loses of Tirupati region significantly, he opined. The purchase of new buses has been a continuous practice.
Last year, the government had earmarked Rs 250 crore for new buses while this year the allocation was Rs 200 crore. “We order new buses and they come in phased manner every month. It’s a continuous practice,” he averred.
The MD was non-committal on the future of RTC workshop located in Tirupati. It may be noted that the workers in the workshop went on relay fasts in June-July last year protesting the move to shift 50-year-old workshop from Tirupati. Surendra Babu, however, said that they will weigh all options before taking a final call in the larger interests of APSRTC. Any decision should ultimately beneficial to RTC.
“We don’t take decision for one or two persons but see RTC as a whole,” he maintained. About the proposed modern bus stand in Tirupati, he said, he will look into it and will do whatever is required. Later, the MD has visited RTC Workshop located near TTD Administrative Building and interacted with the workers. He also reviewed the issues of occupancy ratio and other things with the depot managers in the district.
RTC Executive Directors Maheswar and Koteswar Rao, Regional Manager T Chengal Reddy, DCTM Bhaskar Reddy and other depot managers were present.
