Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for two chilli and turmeric cold storage units at Yedlapadu in Guntur district through a video conference from the Secretariat on Monday.

With a projected budget of Rs 46 crore and a combined storage capacity of 13,000 metric tonnes, the cold storage units will have facilities such as power sub-station, water purification plant and resting places for the labourers.

The Chief Minister was informed that the storage units will also have an inbuilt processing unit and all the storage plants’ works will be finished and plant would be ready for inauguration by December 2018.

Addressing a gathering of around 400 farmers at Yedlapadu through video conference, the Chief Minister said, “This is indeed a prestigious and multipurpose unit which would also facilitate export, production and innovation apart from just storage.” In case of price fluctuations, he added that the storage unit would provide state-of-the-art facility which would benefit the farmers as well as the traders.

“This is a very important development in the warehousing industry as the spices found in AP are indeed of the highest quality and require great care in terms of processing and storage,” he added.
