Two villages fight pitched battles

A small tiff between two small groups from neighbouring villages has turned into a full-scale battle in East Godavari’s Rajanagaram mandal. The people of Torredu and Venkatanagaram fought pitched battle and used sticks, swords, spears, chilli powder and pelted stones at each other.

According to the police, few youth from Torredu villae picked up a fight during a marriage in neighbouring Venkatapuram. This happened sometime ago. However, some youths from Torredu came to Venkatapuram on Sunday to fetch some chicken. Seeing them, Venkatapuram youths attacked them. One of the fleeing youths from Torredu informed about this to Torredu villagers.

The people of two villages gathered in an agricultural field and fought pitched battles.With the news of the battle reaching the police, a large posse from Rajamahendravaram descended and tried to dissuade them. It took quite an effort on their part to control the mobs. The police formed peace committees in both the villages. ‘

The situation is still tense in the village.
