Vijayawada: A total of 5,866 police personnel including 662 sub-inspectors of police are undergoing training at 19 training centres in the State and they would complete the training by July, 2018, said N Sanjay, Inspector General of Police (Training).

Addressing a media conference in Mangalagiri on Tuesday, he said the State government had recruited nearly 6,000 personnel during the last two years to strengthen the police department.

He said the police personnel undergoing training are 4,259 men and 1,607 women for whom the training classes began in July/ August 2017. He said that after completing the training they will be posted in different districts across the State. He said training was being imparted in swimming, vehicle driving (two-wheeler, four-wheeler), hand writing, computers, using laptops, first aid and basic computers.

He said mechanics and drivers will complete the training this month and the other police personnel will complete the training by July 2018. The police department is trying to give the best training with a view to strengthen the department and ensure delivery of the best services to the people, the IG said.
