Tirupati: Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan demanded the state government to take up development works sanctioned during UPA-II in the pilgrim city.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Chintamohan said UPA government sanctioned International Cricket Stadium and also allocated funds to the state for the construction of the stadium, for which foundation stone was also laid near Alipiri.

Though 4 years were passed after TDP came to power, cricket stadium work is yet to be taken up the by the government, he said adding that the International Cricket Stadium will accelerate the development of the city.

Similarly, 7000 double bedroom houses were sanctioned for the homeless poor living in the pilgrim city and Rs 292 crore was also released by the Centre during the UPA II rule, but the housing programmme was also not taken up so far.

The state government vows an explanation to the people on why it has not taken up the much useful programme and what happened to Rs 292 crore given by the Centre for the 7000 houses,’’ the Congress leader asked.

Mohan said the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fast declining and the BJP will get only 145 MP seats in 2019 election. PCC secretary Nainar Srinivasulu and others were present.
