Girijan Cooperative Corporation registers profit for 3rd year in a row

Visakhapatnam: The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) turnover increased to Rs 307 crore in 2017-18 fiscal which is Rs Rs.148 crore three years ago. The GCC registered profits for the third consecutive year, said Vice-Chairman and Managing Director ASPS Ravi Prakash.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, the VCMD said that a target of Rs 500 crore was fixed to reach during 2018-19 and 2019-20. After introducing the value-added products, the corporation's turnover has been increased and registered more profits, he added.

The AP's brand Araku coffee, Girijan honey, soapnut and alovera soap are among other most successful products of the corporation. After the tremendous response in the both Telugu states, the corporation is now planning to enter national and international markets to sell the GCC value-added products, Ravi Prakash said.

"Already, Naandi Foundation has opened an out let to sell coffee grown by tribal farmers of Araku in Paris and also receiving requests for opening more outlets in Israel, Japan and USA," the VCMD said.

Modernisation and technology utilisation have been taken up at the product processing centre in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and other areas to ensure good remunerative prices for tribal farmers, the VCMD added.
