With Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu encouraging the sports in a big way, experienced players and coaches are coming forward to train the state-level teams.

With the state government allocated Rs 10 lakh to train 40 wrestlers in the summer coaching camp from April 24 to May 14, the SAAP has chalked out six-hour rigorous coaching for wrestlers every day in the three weeks camp. Sports authority has appointed two men and one women wrestler experts as coaches to sharpen the wrestlers.

“Before the division of the state, there are no big changes in wrestling game and most wrestlers performed their talent at state-level only. But now the state government has framed a sports policy to provide training to sportsmen on par with international standards.

This decision has created a hope for the development of wrestling game,” said M Surendra Reddy, secretary, Wrestling Association, Chittoor district. Already 40 national-level wrestlers from across the state are undergoing rigorous training at Srinivasam Sports Complex, Tirupati for the last two weeks. Among 120 national wrestlers, over 40 wrestlers were selected as per their previous track record.

Speaking to The Hans India over the summer special coaching camp, national-level wrestler B Suresh Yadav said, “We are readying our team to national tournament to be held in Goa-2018.” Yadhav said that the SAAP would provide accommodation, synthetic mats, shoes and nutritious diet for the candidates.

S Nasrin, a trainee from Kurnool, said she learnt many new techniques in the wrestling camp from coaches K Manohar (Guntur), S Rafi Ahammed (Chittoor), K Kanaka Durga( Kakinada). Tirupati Sports Complex administrative officer Varalakshmi that government specially focussed on promoting wrestling game in the summer coaching camps. “Our aim is to win medals in national and international tournaments by our wrestlers,” Varalakshmi said.
