16-year-old girl raped by 60-year-old priest
Cases of sexual assaults continue in the district. In a span 13 days, three cases of rape were registered. A 16-year-old deaf and dumb girl was raped by two youths at Koccheruvu village on 5th and another 6-year- old girl was molested by her uncle at Varkuru village under Kodmuru police limits on 2nd and now another 16-year-old girl was raped by a priest at Venkayapalle village on Sunday morning.

According to available information, a 60-years-old priest at Venkayapalle Yellamma temple has raped a 16-year-old girl. He gained entry into the house of the girl while her parents have gone out on some work.
The residents who noticed the priest entering the house thought he might have invited by the girl’s parents to perform some puja. Later, the neighbours came to the house and as the house was bolted from inside, they waited outside.
After some time, the priest came out but on seeing the residents he stood aghast and feared. The residents caught the priest and informed to the Taluka police. On receiving the information, the CI, Shaik Ismail along with his staff rushed to the spot and inspected the scene of offense and enquired with the residents.
Speaking to The Hans India the Circle Inspector, Shaik Ismail said, ``The culprit managed to escape before we reached the spot. We have registered the statement of the victim and sent her for medical examination to Kurnool Government General Hospital,” the CI added.
