Tirupati: During the ongoing Ganga Jatara in Tirupati on the fifth day, people don ‘Mahtangi vesham’ and thronged the temple. The famous folk festival of Tirupati was special for theses ‘veshams’ with each day is devoted for a separate vesham.

On Sunday, the popular Mathangi vesham was donned by thousands of people in which male devotees dress like females. They tie yellow cloth over their head and wear jasmine flowers. They reach the temple with dances on the street to the beating of drums and trumpet which is known as ‘kommu’ and perform puja to the goddess.

Being the Sunday, the temple was seen with heavy crowds taking hours to have a darshan of the presiding deity. Devotees made ‘Pongal’ in the temple premises itself and offered to the goddess. Police have made elaborate arrangements at the temple.
