Atmakuru: A six-hour-long traffic jam took place on Monday on the Atmakuru-Dornala tiger sanctuary-Rollapenta ghat road as an iron-rods laden huge truck bound for Amaravati from Kurnool got stranded on the ghat road after hitting the hill on account of the break failure.

As a result, vehicles on either side got stranded for a distance up to 5 km. The people have been struck in the Nallamala forest for over six hours. Children and senior citizens have faced lot of problems for want of drinking water and so on.

Meanwhile, the commuters have trekked 25 km to reach Bairlooti forest department check-post. Some others walked towards Atmakuru, which is 27 km away. Atmakuru DSP Madhava Reddy has regulated the traffic with his personnel. Rescue efforts were on to remove the stranded lorry with the help of huge cranes.

Though the ghat road has been declared national highway 340, no permission has been given to widen the road on account of the Forest
department’s regulations.
