Nellore: Apollo Hospital here successfully treated a prematurely delivered low-birth weight baby (24 weeks) for seven weeks providing artificial respiration and administering fluids through the umbilical cord and discharged the baby as the baby gained weight from 800 grams to that of 1.2 kg.

Addressing the media here, head of the paediatric wing Dr Rupa noted that a woman of Gudur having diabetes delivered the low-birth weight baby in the sixth-month because of low amniotic fluid. She delivered the baby through caesarean section at a private hospital in Gudur as it was an emergency.

The baby was rushed to the NICU in Apollo Hospital here in a special ambulance. She said that the Apollo Hospital has the most modern equipment with access to the round-the-clock ambulance services. Hospital Superintendent Dr Swetha and unit head Naveen were present.
