Srikakulam: The Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) Colonies, which were set up for the displaced of the Vamshadhara project, were still deprived of basic amenities like power, water and road connectivity. Moreover, even graveyards were not constructed in these colonies. As a result, the locals and the oustees of the Vamshadhara project, are always quarreling with each other over some dispute or the other.

At the R&R Colony at Gunabadra village in Kotturu mandal in the district, electricity, CC roads and water are still not made available. This colony was allotted to the oustees from Padali and Duggupuram villages. The oustees at Mahasingi and Puliputti are also facing similar problems on a regular basis.

“We are unable to live here as electricity and water are not available and due to the scorching summer heat, we have to suffer more”, Yerlanki Venkata Rao, Yerlanki Ramana, Yerlanki Srinivasa Rao of Padali village who settled at Gunabadra Colony said while speaking to The Hans India.

In regard to graveyards, the residents of R&R Colonies at Metturu, Mahasingi and Puliputti villages are facing a peculiar problem. When Chintada Gaddemma, an oustee of Puliputti Colony of affected village Chinnasankili died, her last rites were performed after carrying her body 17 km.

“If any one dies, a dispute arises over the place of their burial, and we fear a clash with the residents of the locality”, Barri Karrenna and Dasarinki Appala Naidu and Poddini Ramana of Metturu Colony said.
