Kadapa: The State government is planning to construct a check dam at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore to find a permanent solution for drinking water scarcity in Kadapa city. District Collector Ch Hari Kiran, Government Whip M Mallikarjuna Reddy and officials of the Irrigation department have inspected suitable sites in the villages of Lingampalli, Bandikanuma and Machupalli on Thursday.

While scouting for the land, the Collector informed the villagers over the government’s proposal to construct a check dam at Lingampalli village in Siddavatam mandal. Some of the villagers raised objection over the government’s decision. But, they suggested to supply water to all surrounding villages including Kadapa city if the government is keen on constructing the check dam at Lingampalli.

The irrigation officials informed the Collector that Lingampalli village is suitable for the construction of check dam. Mallikarjuna Reddy brought to the notice of the Collector that there was another proposal for the construction of sub-surface dam at Machupalli village as it was discussed with the Chief Minister.
