Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan’s Porata Yatra by bus will kick off from Itchapuram in Srikakulam district on May 20. The yatra is meant to seek action on promises made by the state and Centre on several contentious issues. With his bus yatra, Pawan Kalyan will be taking a deep dive into campaigning ahead of the elections in 2019.

Before beginning his 45-day Porata Yatra, Pawan Kalyan will perform special rituals such as ‘Ganga Puja’ and will meet the people covering all the Assembly segments in the north coastal district. The actor-politician who arrived in the city on Wednesday night, was closeted with party cadres, supporters and a few influential persons in society discussing the political issues that are trending now.

Speaking to the mediapersons on Thursday, the actor said the objective of his yatra was to exert pressure on the Centre for categorical announcement on a host of promises made in the AP State Reorganisation Act, 2014 apart from according special category status to AP.

The Jana Sena chief said he was keen on ensuring political accountability to politicians. “The practice is to make a number of promises before elections and forget them as soon as they are elected to power.

This has to change,” he said, pointing out that his party was contesting the Assembly elections with an eye on capturing power in the state. During the run-up to 2014 elections, the Telugu Desam Party too gave several assurances and after coming into the power those assurances have not fulfilled, the actor pointed out.
