In Kadapa city, Anna Canteens will be useful for poor, daily wage labourers and people coming from other parts of the district on an official, business and personal purpose. One has to shell out Rs 30 for breakfast and 60 for lunch in the hotels located close to bus stand where 75,000 passengers come to city every day.

The government is spending Rs 33 lakh for construction of each canteen and the price for breakfast is fixed at Rs 5. The price is same for lunch and supper too. The district administration wants to utilise the kitchen room of the old Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital for preparing breakfast and food items.

The kitchen is lying vacant after the hospital shifted to new building. A daily wage labourer C Venkataramana Reddy thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for planning to launch Anna Canteens from June 2.

Employees working in small private firms are also welcoming the initiative of the government. “I am carrying my lunch from home in a hurry. Now, I can have breakfast, lunch and supper for just Rs 15,” said M Ramakrishna, who is working as DTP operator at Nagarajapet in the city.
