Vijayawada: The city road expansion project is halted in midway due to lack of funds and land acquisition problems. Several important roads from NTR Circle to Kanuru, Mogulrajapuram to Gunadala, flyover at Gunadala, Ramalingeshwara Nagar to Yanamalakuduru and Mutyalampadu to Ramavarapupadu Ring Road are in the list of expansion plan of the government.
The state government prepared plans to expand all internal roads in the city and already spent Rs 2,000 crore during the last three years for roads development. Still, several roads remain in the list of pending projects.
For instance, the government prepared a plan to expand the road stretch from Siddhartha College to Gunadala up to Eluru Road. The vehicle users prefer the road stretch to reach Eluru road from Mahatma Gandhi Road and Road No-5 route. Moreover, the government wants to provide a new way for the convenience of airport passengers to reach National Highway through Ramavarappadu Ring Centre.
The stretch is listed in the important roads list under expansion plan. But several residences and encroachments should be removed from both sides of the road. It appears to be difficult and at the same time expensive, said former corporator of the area B Srinivasa Rao. The road expansion would be convenient to the citizens, he added.
The stretch from NTR Circle to Kanuru is pending with the officials for expansion. Indeed, the road expansion should have been completed long ago. But the works are yet to be launched due to land acquisition problems. Several buildings, commercial complexes and residences at NTR Circle, Patamata, Postal colony, High School Road and Autonagar gate, Old Check post center, Ashoknagar and Kanuru need to be removed for road expansion. The land price in the stretch is costlier and huge money is required for expansion.
Similarly, the government wants to remove houses and encroachments at Ramalingeswara Nagar and Yanamalakuduru road. The road is very important way to vehicle users those travel through Krishna River Bund to Diviseema and many villages. The project is pending with the government in view of opposition from locals.
