Sanitary workers seek job security
Demanding equal pay for equal work to sanitary workers, CITU state leaders along with GVMC contract workers and other sanitation workers in the city staged a rally from Railway station to GVMC office here on Saturday.
Visakhapatnam: Demanding equal pay for equal work to sanitary workers, CITU state leaders along with GVMC contract workers and other sanitation workers in the city staged a rally from Railway station to GVMC office here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, CITU state secretary P Uma Maheshwar Rao demanded the state government to stop recruiting persons on outsourcing basis and regularize the contract workers by providing job security.
According to apex court verdict, the government should implement equal pay for equal work. To prevent workplace harassment against women, he demanded that the government set up women protection cell and committees.
He said the CITU would intensify the protests if the government neglects sanitary workers issues. The rally passed through Teluguthalli flyover and concluded at GVMC Gandhi statue.
