Visakhapatnam: YSRCP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy demanded immediate searches by CBI of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s houses for the antique jewellery of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.

He alleged that the antique jewellery was found after the digging of ‘Potu’ (TTD kitchen) and it was shifted to Chief Minister’s house. “The missing wealth of the Lord will be unearthed if the central investigating agency conducts searches in the houses of Chief Minister at Amaravati and Hyderabad,” he said while addressing the media here on Wednesday.

Vijayasai Reddy also expressed his readiness that he would quit Rajya Sabha if nothing is found in the searches in the Chief Minister’s properties. Casting doubts on Naidu’s sources of income and wealth, he wondered how could he gets such huge revenues on Heritage Foods only. His allegations followed a standoff between YSRCP activists and police on Wednesday.

The YSRCP announced on Tuesday night that it would cleanse the venue of Dharma Poratam meeting on AU Engineering College grounds where Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu spoke, alleging that he had misled people by telling lies. Reacting to this, TDP leaders also called upon their cadres to come to the AU Engineering College to foil the YSRCP programme.

Fearing confrontation between the two parties, police rushed to YSRCP office at Maddipalem and asked the party leaders to withdraw their attempt to cleanse AU grounds.

As they did not agree to do so, police arrested them, including Vijayasai Reddy and shifted to various police stations in the city. Tense situation prevailed for some time as police and YSRCP activists entered into heated exchanges and police deploying additional forces.

Speaking to media at different places while being taken into custody and at police station, Vijayasai Reddy pointed out that TDP leaders cleansed Vuda Central Park area in city where they had staged a one-day protest demanding Special Category Status in the past.

“Police then did not touch them. Now they are illegally arresting the YSRCP activists who are peacefully proceeding to cleanse the AU Engineering College grounds,” he said.
